- - - - PERSONA. positive traits --artistic: James expresses himself best through images. Words often fail him, but color and shape and abstraction can best convey his thoughts. Though he's moved countless times over the past several years, he's refused to go anywhere without his sketchbook and a box of pencils. He's rather protective of his art and rarely lets anyone see it, so he spends plenty of time off on his own to work in private. Only those he trusts completely, like his younger sister, are allowed to see his work.
--loyal: Anyone who earns his trust will have a staunch ally by their side. He will defend them to the end, even if it means going down with the ship. When he truly feels close to someone, he can actually be quite affectionate, but mostly he displays his trust through small things to show he's thinking about them. It might be a little note in his sister's lunch bag or a tiny sketch on a friend's homework, but any sort of gift like this means he is completely comfortable around the recipient.
--passionate: If James loves something, he goes after it with all his might. He would keep working on his art, even if it meant dying. He would join a protest, even if it meant sleeping out in the cold in front of a government office. This also applies to relationships. James always tries to stay guarded, but if a man manages to work their way into his heart, he'll fall hard and fast.
. negative traits --opinionated: The downside of being so passionate about things is that it also makes James rather stubborn. If he believes in a fact or a cause, he won't let it go unless it's completely lost to the world. He refuses to lose a fight or an argument, even if it's to his detriment to continue.
--over-protective: After losing so much, like his parents and his home, James has become incredibly possessive of anything he does have, including people. His sketchbook is his most prized possession, and isn't to be touched by anyone else under any circumstances, but his sister comes in a close second. The idea of her going to a different home than him, even for a month, is enough to give him a panic attack, and any boys admiring her will soon be looking through a black eye. He refuses to lose anything he loves, even if it means compromising his sister.
--unruly: A constantly shifting life, little discipline in the group home he lived in, and a generally "individual" (read: disobedient) personality led to James becoming the bane of his teachers. Even in middle school he disrupted the class, passing notes and talking out of turn and drawing on the desks. He was tested for an attention disorder, but there was no conclusive proof that there was anything wrong. He simply refused to obey. Now that he's almost grown, it's manifested as rebellion. Skipping class isn't uncommon, and when he does attend, he certainly won't pay attention. He's just as likely to get in a fight as to pass quietly through the halls, and he isn't afraid to speak his mind.
. likesArt, his sister, Hot Topic, video games, time to himself, singing, running, clothes with chains, Toy Story, Spree candy, boys, dark blue, rain, German rock music, finding someone to trust, stability, being right, action movies, reading. . dislikesGirls, high school, moving, thunderstorms, being in a car, losing control of a situation, sports, homophobes, silence, crowds, cliques, young children, peanut butter, shopping, homework, taking orders. . dreams and secrets --dream: To fly. It's a stupid dream, he thinks, because it's impossible, but somehow he can't get it out of his head. It would give him the ultimate freedom. He could go where he wanted, live how he chose, and never go back to foster care. It would be a simple matter to pick up his sister and fly off and never worry again... if only he could fly. A lot of his art is about flight, but these are the pictures he guards the most fiercely.
--secret: His worst fear is being alone. Though he likes to spend time to himself, he always knows that his sister will be there if he wants her. But the thought of losing her terrifies him. James is convinced that he's "unlovable" by any new family, and so his sister is the only person he has left. This is why he's so over-protective of her, and also why he falls so hard and fast for any boy who shows interest in him. He wants somebody who will be there forever, and he wants them there as soon as possible.
- - - - HISTORYJames was born to a happy young couple, recently married and excited to raise a baby of their very own. He was given crayons at an early age, and even then his scribbles were almost always recognizable. The boy could, at five, draw a passable horse, and his talents only continued to improve from there.
When he was only weeks from being a year old, his younger sister was brought into the world. Though he was too young at that point to understand, James became protective of her the moment she started kindergarten. Anyone who made her cry would shed tears of their own, though it was never from anything worse than a shove. As she progressed through school, he was always a year ahead, watching out for her. When she needed help with homework, he was right there to aid her. Though James's grades were never amazing, he understood well enough to assist her to the best of his ability.
Though his sister was the main focus of his childhood, serving as his constant companion, his parents were equally important in his early life. His father was a dance teacher at a local jazz studio, and his mother was a stay-at-home mom who loved nothing more than her family and books. Her children were taught to read from an early age, and this helped James to develop his artistic skills. As his mother read him Treasure Island, he would scribble out a picture of a pirate ship or a chest full of gold. He was perfectly content with his life, and wouldn't have changed a thing.
When he was ten years old, however, his comfortable life came to a screeching halt. His parents had always loved the arts, and were driving back late one night from a showing of a musical in Portland to their home in Salem. The thunderstorm had created a deep layer of water over a bend in the road, but it was invisible until it was too late. Both parents were killed in the violent crash, as was the driver of the car that they hit when they skid.
James and his sister, lacking any able relatives to care for them, were taken into the foster care system. The first several years were spent in and out of homes, but as the children aged, it became harder and harder to place them. James misbehaved repeatedly, often without thinking about it, doing his best to express his displeasure with his life without considering the consequences. Finally he and his sister were placed in one more home, a place that was willing and able to take both of them, "problem child" or not.
James, however, was still unhappy with the placement. Even though they were out of the group home, the new family lived in Portland. Not only had the city killed his parents, but it was far too crowded for his tastes. Now he's stuck in the city, caught between the choice of holding his tongue and staying put, or lashing out again and uprooting himself and his sister yet again in the hopes of moving back to a smaller city.
For now, he's opted to stay quiet, and has just started at Kimball High School. He is, for now, a Transfer because of his recent arrival, and as of now has no idea what clique he should attempt to join.
- - - - THE WRITER ( FLYNN ). sample(This is from a slave/master site I'm on.)
There was a brief pause, and Noah wondered whether the slave was thinking of ignoring his order. He almost hoped so; it would be a perfect reason to introduce him to the punishments in his home. At the same time, he wanted this handsome young slave to be different. An obedient slave, a perfect toy to command as he wished, a living puppet to control and beat... and Jasper could be perfect for the role. Finally the boy lowered himself to the floor, and Noah gave a brief nod of satisfaction. The next words from the slave's mouth, however, caused him to raise an eyebrow. He thought a mere leash was kinky? Obviously he'd never experienced a proper master like Noah. "Kinky? No. This means I own you. This leash is standard. You won't see anything kinky for another twenty minutes."
He bent and clipped the leash to the young man's collar, pausing for a brief moment to make eye contact. "Oh, by the way. The first rule in my house is this: slaves do not speak unless given permission. Disobey, and you'll be gagged." If he hadn't been so strict about enforcing his rules with all of his slaves, Noah might have considered giving this one an exemption. The man's voice matched his body in tone, and the master wouldn't have minded listening to his little quips. Still, he would be able to make sounds through a gag, a fact that Noah would certainly take advantage of later.
Straightening up, Noah tugged on the leash and headed for the door. "Put it on my account," he told the guard. "I'll be back in a few days for another one." Then he led his new slave outside to the waiting car. It was small, but it didn't matter. Noah rarely took his slaves with him with he traveled. They almost always stayed at the house, waiting for their master to come home and use them as he wished. Once he'd settled into the backseat with his new toy, the driver carried them off to Noah's home. It wasn't quite a mansion, but it was large enough. "Welcome home." . other characters none
