With the birth of Kora, Katie transformed. After being one of the “it” girls, she realized life is much more than being on top of the food chain during high school. Although Katie isn’t your typical maternal, selfless kind of gal, there is one person in the whole entire world that always receives the maximum amount of love and affection from her. That person being her daughter, her pride and joy, Kora. Katie enjoys being a mother. She might not seem like one, but she’s actually quite a natural when it comes to knowing things that she wasn’t formally taught. Katie had no experience changing diapers or cooing Kora to sleep. She taught herself through trial and error, and that’s exactly what she believes maternity to be. By definition, to be maternal is to be parental, affectionate and sympathetic. She can agree with that, but she also strongly believes someone can’t be maternal without first experiencing the excitement of being a mother. Really, that’s what maternity means to Katie. Maternity is being the best mother she can be, and Leon can agree that she sure the hell does a pretty good job of it. Kora is her life, and like a momma bear does onto her cubs, Katie doesn’t let anyone fuck around with her daughter. DETERMINED Katie likes getting what she wants. It doesn’t matter what anyone says. If they doubt her, it’s only more of a reason for her to fulfill the task at hand. Katie likes to achieve the unachievable as long as it’s not completely out of whack. When she wants something, she’ll find a way to get it eventually. The only person who seems to be impervious to her keen ability to get what she wants happens to be Leon Garner Labeau. As long as you don’t have that name, dazzling green eyes, and sexy black hair, you’re completely vulnerable to her incredibly persuasive powers. That’s Katie’s leading method, but there are other ways to succeed. Some may call it bullying, the process she goes through to come out of a situation with the benefits high and mighty. Others call it craftiness. On some days, she agrees with the first opinion. On most days, she swears by the latter. Katie is a strong character. After being raised by her parents to keep with something even when it sucks, she has come to realize that some things aren’t going to work out, but there’s no point in allowing it to let her get her down. Kora’s birth has only multiplied Katie’s incentive to do well and prove her wishes to be true. She’s tired of taking crap from people who find her to be a slut because she’s a teenage mother. SHORT-FUSED Oh boy does Katie have a temper! I’m pretty sure she takes after her father. Katie’s patience for anyone but Kora (and Leon at times) is slim to nothing. She can’t stand being put on hold, and she absolutely despises being disrespected. Katie tends to misinterpret things that she hears, too. If she thinks someone is talking shit about her, she’ll probably turn on that son of a bitch and eat him or her out for no reason. As aforementioned, Katie is tired of the rumors going around about her. She’s tired of being judged because she has a baby. Katie, although she denies it, can be classified as a perfectionist at times. She likes things to be done exactly how she wants them, and if it isn’t, then it really is no good. Clutter also drives her insane. She realized this was so after she moved into an apartment with Leon and began her career as a house “wife”. Katie also has pet peeves. Who doesn’t? Idiocy drives her crazy. Leon is known to be a little oblivious, and it takes all her patience to keep her cool when he doesn’t understand something. There’s other things that piss her off, too. Before the pregnancy, she had been very moody. After Kora was born, the hormones seemed to stick around. There are some days when she can’t keep herself calm. There are other days when it isn’t a problem. I don’t want to make her sound mentally disabled, but she does have her “good” and “bad” days. SELFISH We’re down to one trait, and it isn’t her finest quality. Old habits die hard. Before she was blessed with Leon and Kora in her life, Katie had done everything for herself. It didn’t matter what she was doing. If she was doing it, there was probably some kind of benefit for her in the long run. She hadn’t found any flaws in the trait before, but now that she can look back and analyze the choices she had made, she’s perfectly capable to admit she’s a selfish bitch. Katie grew up being the second-best child in her family of five. This was before Harper was born, of course. Taylor always did everything better, and somewhere along the way, Katie decided she didn’t need to be like Taylor. As long as she was happy, no one else mattered. As I had mentioned before, Katie loves to have things done her way. It doesn’t matter what it is. They have to be done how she wants it. Selfish? Yup. That’s why we have this trait. Before Kora was born, Katie abided by the fact that the world was a dog eat dog world. She had blown off her friends, used people, and hurt some pretty incredible people only to prove that she did everything for herself. Now, her selfish ways aren’t as extreme. She does think about how something can benefit her and she insists things work around her schedule, but she’s also learned a new word: compromise. So yes, Katie continues to do things for herself, but we can honest to God thank someone that she has toned down her selfish ways if only just a tiny bit. Estelle Fitzgerald was introduced to Walter’s religion after they were wedded. Together, the two decided to pass on their wisdom to their future children. Their first born child, Taylor, would grow to be their pride and joy. Their next child, Dustin, didn’t make it in the world. He died shortly after a premature childbirth. Estelle and Walter Maddox were appalled. When Estelle was once more pregnant, she prayed God might be gracious to this child. When she was successfully conceived, they named their third born child Katherine Tara Maddox. They called her Katie for short. Enough with the kids, the Maddox family decided to raise their two remaining daughters before even considering any more children. For the most part, Taylor was a well-behaved, perfect little girl. Katie was a little more difficult. She always wanted the alternative of what she received. Needless to say, this caused problems later on in her life. Katie was introduced with cheerleading when she was twelve years old. Her seventh grade teacher mentioned cheer try-outs, and she asked her mother for the opportunity to try out. Estelle was reluctant to agree, but after enough “Pretty please with cherry on top” being repeated over and over, she had no choice but to give in. Seventh grade year allowed Katherine to bloom. She was known by most of her teachers because of Taylor’s squeaky clean reputation, so it wasn’t difficult for the blonde to get away with things when she needed a quick excuse as to why she didn’t bring her homework. She turned to be very much unlike Taylor, and it scared Estelle. Harper Mae, Katie’s younger sister, had just been born when Katie’s behavior began to change. Estelle was convinced Harper’s birth was the cause to Katie’s irregular behavior. It wasn’t, but Katie allowed her mom to think what she’d like. Come freshman year, Katie began to experience unfamiliar emotions. She’d had her share of boyfriends, and she’d been introduced to the concept of intercourse through sex ed programs, but never had she thought she’d feel the way she did about a girl. She was on the junior varsity cheer team, and Katie had befriended a girl who was also on the squad. She was a freshman, and they shared common interests. Katie thought the emotions were friendly, but the way her stomach churned every time she was around scared her half to death. The timing for one Jaiden Annabelle Labeau to come about what just about perfect. Katie began spending time with her, and during a slumber party, their conversation took a turn for the worst. They got close, and before she knew it, she was locking lips with another girl. Yikes! Afraid, Katie ran away from it. She banished Jaiden from her life. For a while, anyway. Katie had always been quite the bitch once she’d moved onto the varsity squad sophomore year. She began sleeping around without her family’s knowledge, and she began becoming even wilder than before. At the same time, her parents were under the impression that their darling daughter was committed to her virginity vow. Yeah, right. As soon as she met them in the parking lot of the grocery store to reveal her pregnancy, they sure were slapped right in the face. The baby daddy, Leon Labeau, had been a revenge attempt at Jaiden that had gone horribly wrong. Karma is really a bitch. Walter made the decision to kick his daughter out of the house, and Katie was forced to move into Leon’s house. She hated him, but those feelings soon began to change as they bought an apartment together and witnessed the birth of their daughter. Eventually, they fell in love, even if their love was completely illegal. Now, Katie’s parents as well as Taylor have completely exiled her from their lives, and she’s perfectly alright with that. She had to take a hiatus from cheerleading, but the coach had allowed her to come back after Kora was born. That doesn’t mean the Populars treat her right.
