PERSONALITY INDEPENDENT despite what erik may put out to the world - that he doesn't really care for anyone but himself - he's extremely loyal, even though he doesn't want to be. when it comes down to it, erik will throw himself in front of a car to protect the one's that he cares about. once your his friend, your usually his friend for life, so it would be wise not to break that bond. he doesn't like admitting that he is loyal to people, and even though he displays it within the company of those he loves, he's usually reluctant to show his loyalty when in the company of those he doesn't particularly trust. it's rather ironic, because being through a situation like his you would think he'd be completely cut off from the world. but don't worry - he only acts like that. CONSIDERATE also another reluctant trait that he possess. When he was younger, his mother used to praise him for being considerate toward others, and so it was installed in him as a compulsory thing. as he grew older, he realized that this wasn't necessarily true, but decided to keep consideration as a constant companion. that was until his world turned upside down, and then erik started to let his companion consideration take a back-seat. he burrowed him pretty far down - far enough that it wouldn't emerge, but not far enough so that he still couldn't feel it burning in the back of his mind. once again, he considers his consideration, his warm-heartedness, a weakness, and so he tries to contain it. of course, only a few people have seen this lonesome trait. GUARDED erik doesn't just trust anyone, but what can you expect from a young man who's been both morally and physically beaten his whole life? in fact, he's built a wall that's rather impenetrable. je's the mysterious guy that walks down the hallway that nobody really knows anything about. to this day, erik has managed to keep everyone he knows out of his life - he hates people who try to make things better when they really can't. whenever erik doesn't want to be in a situation, he usually becomes angry and storms off. he's never been much of a talker in any case, so he tends to avoid situations where he has to confront people. but underneath all those high walls is someone who simply wants to be known - but he won't let anyone else know that. LONER when it comes down to it, erik loves to be by himself. even since he was younger, he's always been that one kid who eats lunch by himself, or spends his days inside reading rather than outside playing. this trait intertwines with his heavy guard - because of his guard he tends to outcast himself from society. it's not something he means to do, everything he does simply radiates loner. instead of making friends in class and doing partner projects, erik would much rather work by himself. erik finds it difficult to put himself in social situations - and it's not that he becomes awkward around other people, he just doesn't really want to deal with other people. and that's the base line of it. THE STORY erik austerlitz's life started in a small town just outside of berlin, germany. he was born to his two, hardworking parents, aldric and berlin austerlitz. in fact, they named erik after his grandfather, so technically speaking his real name is erik konrad austerlitz the second - but who wants to say that whole mouthful? so instead, he just goes by erik austerlitz. nice and simple. anyways, he was born as the first child to his parents. even from a young age, he had a striking resemblance to his grandfather - which sort of freaked aldric out a little, since he never really got along with his grandfather. in any case, erik was soon joined by his younger sister, ever, a simple year later. unlike erik, ever actually resembled her parents more than erik. strange how stuff like that works out, right? well, of course, being born so close, erik and ever did everything together. if their mother went to the store, both of them tagged along. if erik wanted to play tag, of course ever would oblige. if ever wanted to play dolls and tea time, erik would of course attend. spending time together was almost essential for them, and they could hardly ever be torn apart. and nobody could've known how essential that relationship would be when they grew older. now, aldric was a good man, usually an honest man, who did his work and earned his money fairly. but, unlike most other men, he had a problem in dealing with alcohol. most nights, after working a long hard shift at the local factory, he would go to the local pub for a drink or two - which lead to many more drinks, and usually a drunken stupor. not only was ever and erik left at their grandfather's mansion, which was horrible enough as it was, but they were always being picked up by their drunk father. it wasn't as horrible when they were younger, but as the two grew, it got worse and worse. when erik was twelve, it got terrible. one night, drunk, aldric picked up his two children and walked home with them like he did every night of the week. as they were coming home, aldric started going on about erik being a bad soon. his rant soon turned to rage, and his rage caused him to lash out at his small son. with no way to defend himself from his six foot two, drunk father, erik simply took the beating. he didn't tell anyone, and neither did ever, and eventually it just became their little secret. no matter how much ever begged her brother, erik would never tell his mother, he just hoped that one day it would get better. a few years later, the situation was no better off. despite erik being a charismatic, sometimes sarcastic, and playful guy, he refused to make firm friends. everything stayed locked in, and nothing ever came out. ever, worried for him, was always looking out for his mental state - while erik looked after her physical state, so that she wasn't attacked by their father. but every beating took another slice of erik's ability to trust anyone. but finally, a golden lining appeared. the death of erik austerlitz the first. i know what you're thinking - what a morbid thing to say. but he was a horrible man, and aldric was his only living relative left. which meant that all of his money went to the small family. soon enough, aldric decided that he wanted to move his family to a new place, to get away from germany. in an impulsive decision, aldric moved his family out here to portland. so here they are now.
